Piggy Paint: Non-Toxic Nail Polish for Little Princesses and Moms

Finally! A nail polish that is cruelty-free and free of chemicals such as formaldehyde, acetone, toluene, and ethyl acetate. Piggy Paint is also non-flammable and water based. In other words, very safe for little princesses, and moms.

And although mothers can use Piggy Paint, the Sophie range of nail polishes has some more sophisticated colors made specifically with you in mind. And don’t think that your pampered pooch can’t look just as glamorous with the company’s equally non-toxic and aptly named Puppy Paint.

For those of you who have wondered but never asked why in actual fact you don’t want to expose yourself or your children to the chemicals found in nail polish…

When you are exposed to these chemicals, they go into your blood which then carries them to all the organs in your body – and here are the typical chemicals found in regular nail polish, and their health effects:

Formaldehyde: A substance which can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, nose, and throat. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) determined in 2011 that formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen based on sufficient human and animal inhalation studies. High levels of exposure may cause some types of cancers.

Acetone: Breathing moderate- to-high levels of acetone for short periods of time can cause nose, throat, lung, and eye irritation; headaches; light-headedness; confusion; increased pulse rate; effects on blood; nausea; vomiting; unconsciousness and possibly coma; and shortening of the menstrual cycle in women (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry ToxFAQs)

Toluene: This substance is suspected of affecting the nervous system. Low to moderate levels can cause tiredness, confusion, weakness, drunken-type actions, memory loss, nausea, and loss of appetite. (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry ToxFAQs)

Ethyl Acetate: Short-term exposure to high levels of ethyl acetate results first in irritation of the eyes, nose and throat, followed by headache, nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, and unconsciousness. Very high concentrations may cause a stupor. Prolonged exposures may cause clouding of the eye, damage to the lungs and heart and kidney and liver problems. (Toxipedia)
